All marketing Is Content Marketing
Or it should be!
If the purpose of marketing is to get people to notice and engage with your company, then content marketing can be thought of as the way for the “right” people to notice and engage with your company.
The Content Marketing Institute, an online marketing resource defines content marketing as:
“Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience – and ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.”
Instead of just pitching your products or services, you are providing truly relevant and useful content to your prospects and customers to help them solve their issues.
So why is this important? Because the internet has fundamentally changed the buyer’s journey.
Today buyers of everything can hide behind spam filters, voice mail, Facebook, Amazon, Yelp, etc. They no longer want or need to see a sales person to learn about your industry, best practice ideas, competitive pricing. None of that.
We have always gathered information to help us decide what to buy and in a connected world content marketing provides the content your target clients want and need as they progress from future buyers to now buyers.
How much is too much?
I am always asked how much is too much and my answer is always the same. It is never too much if it is providing valuable information. Your ideal clients and prospects will always appreciate valuable and informative content. Others won’t but that’s ok. When your ideal clients and prospects are ready to buy, they will turn to you because your content has generated real “know” “like” and “trust”
Marketing junk filled with jargon won’t help. Corporate speak and glossy brochures with sexy pictures won’t help. Information that makes your ideal clients and prospects more successful will work every time.
